The P-18 was used to detect high-flying targets, including stealth aircraft. System was in use with the S-125 (ItO 79) AA missile system. When the system was retired, there were plans to modernise the P-18 radars for aerial surveillance and AA use, as many friendly countries and private industries based in these countries offered system upgrades to the device. These upgrades were offered among others, Czechia, Lithuania, Vietnam and Hungary. The project was shelved circa 2004 after more modern equipment was acquired with a reasonable budget.
