ANTI-AIRCRAFT CANNON 35 ITK 58 OERLIKON AND SUPER FLEDERMAUS FIRE CONTROL SYSTEM
The Swiss anti-aircraft twin cannon, model 1958, and the fire control device were part of the automatic weapon system acquired by Finland in the early 1960s, which consisted of two cannons and a fire control unit. The equipment was gradually introduced in 1962–1964. All anti-aircraft units in Finland provided training in this weapon system. Before its introduction, Oerlikon tested the system extensively in both Lapland and Hyrylä garrison. The cannons and fire control devices were modernised in the late 1980s and remain in air defence use to this day. The modernized gun system used by Finland is roughly similar to the GDF-003 model, but the documentation does not clearly describe it as such, for only the Finnish abbreviation 35 ItK 88 is mostly used. Both the modernized and unmodernized Super Fledermaus systems remain in training use or storage.
